Ford’s first venture into hybrid technology was the Ford Escape. The 2005-2009 Ford Escapes were the first generation for the Escape Hybrids. The hybrid Escapes are the same size as the fully gas version. The hybrid batteries are made up of 50 cylinder style cells, each with 5.5 amp hour (Ah) capacity. The 2005-2009 Escape Hybrids get 32 combined city/highway mpg. Right now a hybrid battery from Ford for a 2005-2009 Escape costs $9700 before tax and installation.
